Melissa West

Melissa West is a dancer/choreographer/curator whose work investigates the tensions between space, place, and the self. This includes works for stage and film, as well as landscapes and public spaces. Her training began at the Staten Island Ballet, where she was among the first cohort of students at the Staten Island Ballet school. Melissa holds dual-degrees in Dance and English from Hunter College, and an MA in Performance Studies from New York University. Since 2008, her work has been presented at the Atlantic Salt Factory, Newhouse Center for Contemporary Art at Snug Harbor, The Living Theater, Triskelion Arts, Queens Museum, The Brick Theater, The Greenbelt Nature Center, and the Bowery Poetry Club. She was a CUNY Dance Initiative artist in residence from 2016-17. Melissa West is the Vice President of Curation at Snug Harbor on Staten Island, where she oversees the Newhouse Center for Contemporary Art, and curates the PASS performance series and other arts programming.
